Mandatory RES-E quota benefiting from the GC support scheme was approved
For 2017, the mandatory quota of electricity produced from renewable energy sources, which benefits from the green certificate support scheme, is set at 8.3% of the gross final consumption of electricity, pursuant to the government’s decision adopted yesterday.
The Government established the quota for 2017 based on advice from the Romanian Regulatory Authority for Energy, so it should not have a negative impact on the electricity bills of end-users. Although the 2016 quota was 12.15%, calculations made by the Romanian Regulatory Authority for Energy showed that maintaining it for the next year would have caused green certificates to increase the bills of end consumers by 17 lei / MWh, i.e. about 5%.
The regulatory decision was analysed and endorsed by the Competition Council and the Regulatory Authority for Energy.
MORE INFORMATION:
This Government Decision will be effective only until the new government approves the draft Emergency Ordinance amending and supplementing Law no. 220/2008 to establish the promotion system for energy production from renewable energy sources. The European Commission’s Decision approving the changes to the support scheme was obtained by the Romanian authorities on 19 December 2016.
