Opportunities for Students

Are you interested in working at one of the most successful law firms in Central and Eastern Europe during your studies? Wolf Theiss is always on the look-out for motivated individuals who want to develop their skills.

Join us for one month (full-time) in February, July, August or September. You will be fully immersed in the day-to-day work of your legal team while assisting our lawyers in ongoing cases. An internship at Wolf Theiss will give you the opportunity to find out if a career as a lawyer is right for you, and whether you see your future within our law firm. In addition, you will benefit from an intensive training program with professional content (How to write a memo, legal tech training etc.) and sessions that are intended to improve your soft skills.

The training sessions are led by various WT professionals with backgrounds in varying divisions giving you a unique insight into different aspects.

To help you with the decision making process, you will receive comprehensive feedback and a final career session with one of our HR experts and your personal mentor, who will have guided you through the internship as a personal and professional advisor. It is also important to mention that as a Legal Intern you will be welcome to attend all social events for the duration of your time at Wolf Theiss.

An invitation to our ‘Career Day’ (one-day assessment) will be sent to you via e-mail where you will be given enough time to prepare both before and during the event.
Practice your negotiating skills in our mini moot court and receive extensive feedback regarding your (professional and personal) performance during the day. We will notify you as to whether you have been successful within a few days.

What are your tasks in the course of the assessment centre?

  • Individual assessment: You will receive the necessary information one week prior to the Career Day. Your client will expect a brief written response with an initial legal evaluation before the negotiations start.
  • Group assessment: As with any negotiation, there are two sides – the opposing team has received different information. Now it’s a matter of coordinating with your team and preparing a strategy for the following negotiations in order to reach a settlement for your client.
  • Personal assessment: Introduce yourself in English and tell us about your personality, strengths, and motivation for seeking an internship at Wolf Theiss “Beyond your CV”.

Application deadlines

Legal Winter Internship (February 2025): 16 September – 17 November 2024
Legal Summer Internship (July, August or September 2025): 18 November 2024 – 31 January 2025

Upload your application documents (CV, English cover letter including information on your preferred areas of law, university transcripts) in just a few clicks via our career portal.

If you have any questions regarding your application for a Legal Internship, don’t hesitate to contact us before the application deadline or take a look at our FAQs.

Legal traineeships are usually offered to advanced students who have successfully completed a one month legal internship and are interested in continuing within Wolf Theiss as an associate once they have graduated from law school. However, this career path is not a requirement, we always welcome applications from qualified students who would like to join us on a part-time basis.

As a legal trainee, you will be able to work part-time (10–30 hours per week) and support our lawyers on an ongoing basis. You will be fully immersed in the day-to-day work of your legal team while assisting our lawyers in ongoing cases and making a significant contribution to our daily business.

We have various opportunities available to you either before you complete your university degree or before you register with the local bar association. If you have any questions, please contact us directly.

Case studies: Mergers & acquisitions

We offer this annual course, which is run by our partner Christian Mikosch (PG Corporate M&A) in cooperation with the Juridicum Vienna. It takes place at Wolf Theiss during the winter semester. As one of the few English language courses available, it is open to both Austrian and Erasmus students enrolled at the University of Vienna. The aim of the course is to provide a practical introduction to the topic of mergers & acquisitions from the perspective of lawyers working in an international environment. Using a case study, the course presents an M&A transaction from the first preliminary negotiations to the closing of the acquisition. Of course, you will be invited to the closing party at the office, where we will celebrate the successful signing. Registration for this course is completed through the registration directory at the University of Vienna.

Some of our offices in Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe hire legal interns on similar terms to those described above. Please contact the relevant local Office Operations Manager directly for further information.

In Vienna, we offer full-time, non-legal, summer internships in our business departments. For more information consult our job portal during spring.
